What are the best gifts for your dog?
Do you give your dog gifts?
If you're a dog parent, chances are that you buy stuff for your dog. I'm not talking about food, leashes, or other necessary things, but the items that your dog likes. I'm talking about unique products that your dog looks forward to using. And you do too.
What makes an excellent dog gift?
What is the perfect gift, whether for your dog or for any other loved one? That's an age-old question that still doesn't have an absolute answer. Since there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer, you have to use your best judgment. And, to make that gift even more special and unique, you might want to look at products from a small business or maker.
Considerations
Your dog isn't going to tell you. For one thing, they can't exactly talk. Also, dogs love us and don't ask for much. That means you have to guess. Here are some things to consider.
- What kind of activities do you and/or your dog do? Fun or necessary activities can be more enjoyable with the right gear.
- What kind of weather do you have in your area? Are there items that might make life easier or more enjoyable?
- How old is your dog? A puppy has different needs than an active adult or a senior.
- Does your dog have any health considerations? Maybe a stomach issue, seizures, blindness, ... the list goes on.
- How is your dog built? A toy poodle will have different needs than a St. Bernard.
- What kind of training or exercise does your dog need? An active puppy might need brain stimulation, while an older couch potato might be happy just going on walks.
Dog gift ideas
Depending on your situation with your dog, here are some ideas for gifts for the upcoming holidays.
- A new, soft dog bed. Our dogs LOVE their My Pillow dog beds, made in the USA. We have several, and they're almost always occupied. Plus, they hold up well.
- Martingale collars. We have Lola Limited collars for each of our dogs, also made in the U.S. They're beautiful! They come with training prongs but can be used with or without.
- Pretty much anything from Chewy.com. Although not everything is made in the U.S., they stand behind their stuff. They're great to work with!
- Handmade dog gifts from Etsy.com. If you're familiar with handmade, Etsy will come up as a great source. Take a look at all the dog stuff they have available. Some shops are in other countries, but all of their products are handmade, at least in part.
- Dog clothes from Made by De. I make custom dog clothes to fit any dog. Contact me so we can put together a product with the perfect combination of style and function for your dog.
This list is not complete, but we have used all of these products, so I feel confident recommending them. When you visit Made by De, don't forget to sign up for the Insider Group. You'll get a coupon code for 20% off all orders.
