What dog clothes does your dog need for summer?

Does your dog need clothes?

How do you know if your dog needs clothes of any type? Some people might say that dogs don't need clothes, but I disagree. Not all dogs need them. Some do, however.  And here's why.

Reasons your dog might need clothes for summer

-   Dogs that need help staying cool in the heat might benefit from a cool coat. There are undoubtedly other ways of keeping your dog comfortable and preventing overheating, but a cool coat provides flexibility that other methods don't.

-    Dogs with thin or light-colored coats are at risk of sunburn.  If you plan to spend much time outside, these guys could use something to block the sun such as a cool coat or a grooming coat.  This also helps dogs who experience sun fading.

-   If you live further north, camp at a higher elevation, or otherwise spend time where the mornings/evenings get chilly, small dogs or thin-coated dogs might benefit from a light jacket or pajamas to keep them comfortable when the temps drop.

-   If you are in a rainy environment, your dog might need a raincoat to stay dry.  A dog raincoat can help decrease the muddy mess of a wet dog.  It can also help keep your dog warm since being wet means evaporation happens which means your dog might get cold, even when it doesn't seem cold to you.

-   Dogs that are incontinent or experiencing their heat cycle can benefit from a diaper.  Dog diapers contain fluids so that your dog can still hang with you without making a mess.

What clothes does your dog need?

As the dog parent, you will have to decide what's best for your dog. Consider what type of activities you have in mind, the traits of your particular dog, and the climate you live in to determine your dog's potential needs.
