Happy Independence Day! Make it good for your dog too!

Summertime fun for your dog

You want your dog to enjoy the summer as much as you do, right? But there are a few issues that need to be addressed if you're going to do all you can for your best friend.

Help your dog deal with the heat

Dogs can get overheated more quickly than people generally do.  So as a good dog parent, it's important to observe your dog to ensure they're comfortable.

Be aware of weather conditions so you can plan ahead. If you're prepared with a plan for keeping your dog cool when the heat is on, you can prevent heat stroke or becoming overheated.  Read my post about how dog cool coats can help.

Loud noises can be scary

Dogs have more sensitive hearing than people do.  When the fireworks start or that thunderstorm is rolling in, your dog might react fearfully.  Did you know the period around July 4th is when the shelters take in the most dogs? If dogs panic and get loose they can run off and get lost or injured.

You can keep your dog safe by making sure they have a safe, secure place to stay.  Make sure they have ID on them so you be reunited more easily.  Also, take any measures you can to keep anxiety down, including medications or avoiding situations. Some dogs handle it better than others, so know your dog and do what they need to remain safe. For more ideas, read this post.

Have fun with your dog this summer

Summertime is full of activities that can be fun for you and your dog.  With a little planning, the two of you can get the most out of it!
