Taking care of your athletic dog

September 5, 2021|Dog coats, Dog health

Do you have an athletic dog?

Most dogs are pretty active, although some are more so than others. Is your dog athletic? How do you know and why does it matter?

Athletic dogs are generally more driven to perform. They run faster, turn harder, jump higher.  That extra drive can lead to your dog pushing too much and injuring themselves.

Athletic dogs ask a lot of themselves.

Dogs with a high drive will push themselves to the limit. Whether they’re competing or just playing, they can injure themselves before you know it.

While you can’t prevent all injuries, sometimes you can decrease the risk. Cold muscles are more likely to tear than warm ones. If you keep   muscles warm, they are more likely to stretch instead of tear.

Preventing injuries in athletic dogs

Keeping muscles warm with a fleece coat or winter coat can help your dog be ready to do their best work.  It might not seem that cold to you or your dog, but their muscles can get stiff and lose elasticity. And that’s when injuries happen.

Having a well-fitted dog coat on hand can help you keep your dog limber and injury free. If you have an athletic dog, a custom coat might be a good investment.
